TORRINGTON – Janice Ann Unverzagt, 78, died on Oct. 4 at the Goshen Care Center in Torrington.
Janice was born on June 21, 1934, in Ellsworth, Kan., the daughter of Frank and Marie (Kasper) Conyers.
She lived in Ellsworth until she was 16, when she moved with her family to Lingle. Jan graduated from Lingle-Fort Laramie High School in 1952.
On June 29, 1952, Jan married Carl Unverzagt in Lingle. The couple farmed in Lingle. In 1964, Jan attended beauty school in Scottsbluff, Neb., and after working at another shop in Torrington for about a year, Jan opened her own shop, J and L Boutique. She owned and operated several shops around Torrington until she retired in 2002.
After retirement, she spent most of her time helping her kids and grandkids. Jan really enjoyed spending time with her family.
Jan was an avid bowler and traveled to many tournaments. She also enjoyed fishing, video poker and following her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Jan loved to cook for harvest. She was always cooking for her family, as well as extended families. She also enjoyed gardening and canning.
She was a past president of Torrington Bowling League, a Cub Scout leader and a member of the Moose.
Survivors include her four sons, Gary Unverzagt, Karl and Carol Unverzagt, David and Aimee Unverzagt and Allen and Brenda Unverzagt, all of Lingle; brother, Fred Conyers, of Meridan, Kan.; three sisters, Lou Carlin, of Arlington, Wash., Nancy Snell, of Cheyenne, Jane Carlson, of Wheatland; six grandchildren, Willy, Ryan, Jared, Karter, Jorey and Janelle; and great-grandson, Mason.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Carl; two brothers, Kenneth and James and two sisters, Joann (Jan’s twin sister) and Wilma.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Lingle Community Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Curtis Hill and Pastor Bob Fertsch officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Lingle. Cremation has taken place.
