Military news - 115th Field Artillery Brigade receives a new commander

CHEYENNE, Capt. Joe Spieker, of Wheatland, assumed command of the Wyoming Army National Guard's Headquarters, Headquarters Battery (HHB), 115th Field Artillery Brigade, on Aug. 8.
Spieker took command from Capt. Matthew Berry, of Lingle, in a ceremony held at the brigade's armory, in Cheyenne, in front of the more than 100 soldiers present.

Schlager pleads not guilty last week

TORRINGTON, William Schlager, Jr. pled not guilty due to mental illness to five felony charges at his arraignment last Tuesday in connection with a Hawk Springs shooting and high-speed police chase in April.
If found guilty, Schlager could face maximum penalties of life in prison and a $10,000 fine for attempted first-degree murder, 10 years in prison and a $10,000

Shaylee Rae Pontarolo was born to parents Anthony and Jessica Pontarolo of Lingle on Aug. 7, 2014 at Community Hospital in Torrington at 11:53 a.m. The baby girl weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and measured 20 inches in length.

Authorities take out county drug ring

TORRINGTON, A local drug ring estimated to be distributing up to one pound of methamphetamine per week in Goshen County was taken down last month by authorities.
The Southeast Enforcement Team of the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) out of Cheyenne has been actively investigating a rural Torrington resident suspected of selling drugs since October of last year.
