Penny Brownrigg passed away suddenly at home in Wheatland of complications brought on by being struck by lightning earlier in her life, on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013.
Penny was born March 21, 1970 in Torrington, the daughter of Danny Lee Brownrigg Sr. and Elizabeth Ann (Runyan) Wise.
Penny graduated from Lingle High School in 1988. Penny married Jamie Elwood in 1989 in Fallon, Nev., and to this marriage three children were born, Marcus Elwood, Lee Elwood and Wynona Elwood.
As a young girl, she lived with her mom, step dad and sister Tandi. She took pleasure in making kindling, building steps to the cabin and making toys for her little sister, Tandi.
As a teen, she spent time with her father and brother helping break and training horses. She enjoyed camping and hiking with her three kids. Due to her love of horses, she spent numerous seasons at Sunland Park race track, where she groomed and trained horses with her special friend, Forrest Cook, and her cousin, Debby Brownrigg.
She also enjoyed teaching and educating young children and her niece, Harley. She loved working with her hands and helped build pole barns around Wheatland and other construction projects. While living with her father in Fort Laramie, she would stop by to check up on Dona Rae after she got out of high school and was able to drive. This past May, she went to Iowa to help her niece, Danielle, put on her graduation.
She is survived by her children, Cpl. Marcus Elwood with the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in Germany, Danny Lee Elwood of New Hampshire and Wyonna Elwood-Washburn of Fort Knox, Ky., while her husband serves in the military; parents, Danny Lee Brownrigg, Sr. and Elizabeth (Robert) Wise; sisters, Tandi Wise-Hamilton and Dona Rae Brownrigg-Beltz; fiancé, Marshall Sanderson; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Clay Hort, Zane Hort, Danielle Beltz, Harley Hamilton and David Wayne Beltz Jr; and her dog, Brat.
Penny is preceded in death by her grandparents and brother, Danny Lee Brownrigg Jr.
