TORRINGTON – Marilyn Joyce Barnes, 72, of Torrington, died on Oct. 4 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
Marilyn was born on July 4, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Mary Lou (Oliver) Adams.
She grew up and received her education in Des Moines. She married Harold “Leon” Barnes in Des Moines on July 6, 1957. The moved to Torrington in 1974, where Marilyn worked for Montgomery Ward from 1977 to 1978 and then went to work for Goddards as the head of ready to wear in the Ben Franklin store. She retired in 1995.
Marilyn enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, working on the computer and working in her flower gardens. She designed and sewed individual baby quilts.
Marilyn is survived by three sons, Harold “Bruce” Barnes, of Des Moines, Russell G. Barnes, of Vancouver, Wash., and Bradley A. Barnes, of Cheyenne; two daughters, Mary “Joleen” Lewark and Brenda J. Barnes, both of Cheyenne; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; two brothers, Carl R. Adams, of Des Moines, and Larry A. Adams, of Cheyenne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and grandson, Michael Barnes.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ora Dailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Fort Laramie Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the donor’s choice. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 at the funeral home. The casket will be open briefly prior to the service at the church.
