Lingle takes delivery of new street sweeper
Posted: Wednesday, Oct 8th, 2008

The Town of Lingle took delivery of a brand new street sweeper on Oct. 1. The new Elgin Pelican Sweeper replaces an old sweeper that was traded in. The old sweeper was a 1981 used model that the town purchased for $4,000 several years ago.

The new sweeper was delivered on a lease/purchase agreement over a period of ten years. At the end of the ten years, Lingle will own the sweeper. Cost of the new Pelican was $115,000. The Pelican is run by hydraulics and will eliminate frequent broom changes. In addition, the Pelican makes cleaner sweeps and will not create dust storms like the old sweeper. The new machine should last about 30 years and require much less maintenance than the old one.

Street sweeping began immediately on delivery with Factory Rep Art Logan riding along with Lingle Maintenance Manager Mike Flock and town maintenance man Larry Haeffelin to train them on the new equipment.
